Based on archival materials from Ukraine and Yiddish press from the 1940s, the talk discusses how the imagery of Purim entered Soviet public sphere in the mid 1940s, in association with the Soviet war effort, Soviet victories in the Eastern front, and the destruction of the European Jewish communities in Ukraine,  Belarus, Poland and Romania
